The new proposed health reform bill has been pushed by our leaders in congress as being able to lower the cost of health insurance. It is often said that this bill will make health care affordable by everyone and no one would be without health insurance. Is this bill really going to decrease our costs? How much will premiums be?

In fact, their website reports they have provided medicines valued at over $438 million (Wholesale Acquisition Cost) to almost 415,000 patients during 2008. This includes Zyban, a medication often prescribed to help individuals to quit smoking.

Amgen, the makers of Epogen, have a patient assistance program for many of their pharmaceutical drugs. The program is through The Safety Net Foundation and provides qualifying patients with access to Amgen drugs. Epogen is one of the drugs patients can receive assistance through The Safety Net Foundation.

A lot of patients have become better health care consumers by asking for an estimate prior to approving expensive medical procedures. It is easier to negotiate or compare providers before you actually had the medical procedures performed. Therefore, taking the time to ask for and review estimates can save you money on your health care costs.

I’ve never been a big fan of online directories! Why? I honestly believe that a lot of online directories are started by people who see easy targets amongst small businesses that are desperate to get more traffic to their websites. It is painful to see small businesses shell out good money to be part of a site that may be just a way for someone else to get a little more money. It is even more painful to know that this added expense may need to be covered by the very patient that some online directories state they are helping.
